The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) strongly appeal to the public in Honiara to continue the good behaviour shown during the 6th Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festival during the past week as the Festival draws to a close tomorrow (10 July 2018) afternoon.
“We want to thank each and every one of you both from Honiara, the provinces and our visitors for the good behaviour shown during the MACFest, the 40th anniversary of independence celebrations and the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. Besides the usual incidents happening during such events attracting large crowds of people, police has not recorded any major incidents in the past week. For this the RSIPF must highly commend the public,” says Deputy Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi, who is overall Commander of the MACFest police operation.
“The ceremonies on 6 July to mark our 40th anniversary of independence went on well with reports of the public in Honiara and other provincial centres enjoying themselves with the various activities organised to mark this milestone in the history of our nation,” says DC Manelusi.
He adds: “With the MACFest closing tomorrow afternoon (10 July 2018), Police would like to encourage the public in Honiara to cooperate with your police to ensure that the closing activities run smoothly until the end. We want to see our visitors leave our shores with fond memories of the time they have spent with us.”
“Police will continue visibility patrols at the various MACFest venues to ensure the public continue to move around freely without any fear of problems with their security. We want to encourage people to continue to show respect for one another either when driving or walking along our roads. Let us end the Festival on a trouble-free note,” says DC Manelusi.
He explains: “The RSIPF Traffic officers will continue to be out on our roads conducting their normal operations checking on drivers and the vehicles to make sure everyone is safe.”
“Let us show the region and the rest of the world that Solomon Islands is able to organise such big events as the MACFest in a safe and peaceful environment because we are law abiding citizens who respect one another and the laws of our nation,” says Deputy Commissioner Manelusi.
The police operations for MACFest will continue until 12 July 2018.
