Police in Central Province have completed a two-day Crime Prevention Strategy training held at the Tulagi Police Station from 16 -17 July 2018.
Speaking during the opening of the training, the Operation Manger, Inspector John Sara says, “The training is very important because officers will be equipped with skills and knowledge in their daily work. In addition, officers will know how to resolve issues using the S.A.R.A (Scanning, Analyse, Response and Assessment) model.”
The training is part of the National Crime Prevention Strategy roll out to equip officers with the right skills and knowledge.
During his presentations, the Training Officer for Central Province, Police Constable (PC) Matthew Tola Mumane covered the background of the Crime Prevention Strategy in relation to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Mission Statement and its aims and objectives with the S.A.R.A problem solving model.
PC Matthew Mumane also covered the five main key components of the Crime Prevention Strategy.
A Crime Prevention Committee member of Hagalu Village, Robert Kande was invited to give a talk on how they settle matters within their community.
Mr Kande says, “We deal with minor cases at home and cases of serious nature will be referred to police.”
Another Village Chief of Haleta Village, Stephen Kuali also gave a talk on how they settle matters at the community level saying so far Central Province is having a very good working relationship with the communities.
PC Mumane says, “The idea behind the Crime Prevention Strategy is to give back the ownership of resolving issues happening within our communities to our people.”
After the training, Police in Tulagi will be doing field visits to communities to discuss any crime related problems that need to be resolved using the SARA model.
