Police in the Central Province have completed high visibility patrols to 17 villages in the Province during this past week.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “The villages patrolled during the week are Haleta, Aviavi, Bokolonga, Siarana, Koilovala, Ghumba, Vuturua, Ghole, Tavulea, Salesapa, Una, Somata, Nukufero, Karumuloun, Marulaon and Niumugava.”
PPC Leta says, “An issue was discovered during the visits at Ghumba Village in Small Ngella involving a minor damage to a house. The matter was resolved during which the victim and the suspect reconciled with each other peacefully. It was made possible with the assistance of village chiefs and chairman of the Village.”
Superintendent Leta adds: “This ongoing visit to communities and schools in Central Province is part of the roll out of the Crime Prevention Strategy in terms of community engagement to mitigate public confidence in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.”
She says, “This is an opportunity for people in our communities to report any matter which needs police attention and further consultations with the community leaders for peace to continue throughout Central Province.”
Chairman of the Ghumba Village, Mr Palmer Kovila, says, “I am grateful to the police in the Central Province for assisting to mediate the issue in my village and greatly appreciate the visits by the police. The approach should be continued in the future.”
