Police arrest ten people for alleged brewing of kwaso in Western Province

Police at Gizo in Western Province have arrested and charged ten people on 3 August 2018 for the alleged brewing of kwaso at Lambulambu Village on Vella la Vella Island.

The suspects are believed to be from 16 to 39 years old.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Superintendent Cedar Nevol says, “The ten people were escorted to Gizo Police Station by a member of the Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) of Lambulambu village, where they were formally arrested by police.”

Supervising PPC Nevol adds: “Two buckets (2 x 20 litres) containing the kwaso were surrendered to police as evidence.”

She says, “I would like to thank the CPC member and members of the community who assisted in the successful handing over of the suspects involved in the brewing of kwaso without authorization from the Minister responsible for Licensing.”

“I appeal to other communities in Western Province to do the same and assist the police in dealing with any alleged crime in your communities,” says Superintendent Nevol.

The suspects were released on bail to appear before the Gizo Magistrates Court on 20 August 2018.
