Police charge five people for alleged brewing of alcohol and threatening

Police in Western Province on 4 August 2018 conducted a raid at Sambora Village, on Vella la Vella Island and arrested and charged five people for alleged brewing of kwaso and threatening.

The accused are believed to be 18 to 32 years of age.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Superintendent Cedar Nevol says, “My officers responded to community concerns about the illegal brewing of home-made alcohol locally known as kwaso and causing disturbances since last week at Sambora Village.”

Supervising PPC Nevol adds. “The five accused include two students, a teacher and two members of the community.”

She says, “The arrest of the two students and a school teacher is sad, as this may jeopardize their future careers.”

The accused have been released on bail to appear before the Gizo Magistrates Court on 20 August 2018
