24-year-old man arrested in Honiara on allegations of murder

Police in Honiara have arrested a 24-year-old man with alleged murder following an incident at Panatina in East Honiara this afternoon 17 August 2018.

Provincial Police Commander Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga says, “It is alleged that the suspect and the deceased were consuming alcohol when an argument broke out that led into a fight. It was then that the suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased.”

PPC Uiga explains: “Police officers received the report and assisted the deceased to the National Referral Hospital, but was later pronounced dead by medical authorities.”

He adds: “The suspect was arrested and taken into police custody. Police investigators and forensic officers are now working closely with the community on this matter.”

“I strongly urge both parties to refrain from taking the law into their own hands but to let the Police do their job. At the same time I would like to call on people living around the Panatina area in East Honiara to come forward to police with whatever information that you may have to assist them in their investigations.”
