Task Force JANUS makes another arrest

The Task Force JANUS has arrested a 45-year-old male on 24 August 2018 in Honiara for alleged official corruption.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence Ian Vaevaso says, “On Tuesday 28 August 2018, members of JANUS arrested and interviewed a 45-year-old male in relation to an offence of Official Corruption contrary to Section 91(b) of the Solomon Islands Penal Code Chapter 26.

AC Vaevaso says, “Police interviewed the Government official and he remained in custody overnight at the Honiara Central Police Station before he was taken before the Honiara Magistrates Court on 29 August 2018.”

“The Honiara Central Magistrates Court imposed strict bail conditions on the male person who is next due to appear before the Court on Wednesday 12 September 2018,” AC Vaevaso explains.

He adds: “Investigations are continuing and will be referred to the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecutions.”

The matter is now sub judice and no further comment will be made.

Task Force JANUS is a joint Task Force between the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and the Ministry of Finance & Treasury.

The focus of JANUS is to identify, apprehend and prosecute individuals involved in fraud and corruption within but not limited to the Solomon Island Public Service.

The Task Force is an intelligence led operation with the Ministry of Finance and Treasury having identified a number of individuals suspected of corruption and the abuse of their public office.
