Police in Central Province charge two male with traffic offences

Police at Tulagi in Central Province have arrested and charged two male persons with eight charges pertaining to the Traffic Act.

It will be alleged that on the evening of 1 September 2018 a male person employed by Sasape International Shipyard Limited (SISL) was driving a motor vehicle on the road without rear lights.

Operation Support Manager, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “The vehicle was running on the road without rear lights, hence police chased it and stopped the vehicle in front of the Tulagi Police station.

Inspector Maelasi explains: “The vehicle was detained at the police station for further investigations. On 11 September 2018 the driver was charged for the following counts:

• Lights on motor vehicle;
• Drivers to be licensed;
• Motor vehicle to be licensed;
• Defective tyres of a motor vehicle; and
• Driving uninsured vehicle. “

He adds: “On 12 September 2018 the Operations Manager of SISL has been charged with the following counts:

• Permitting unlicensed motor vehicle;
• Permitting uninsured motor vehicle; and
• Permitting an unlicensed driver.”

Both suspects have been released on bail to appear at Honiara Magistrates’ Court on 25 October 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “I wish to remind all drivers to always carry a valid driving license with you when driving. Vehicle owners please ensure that your vehicle is insured, its license is valid, and the vehicle is roadworthy before using it on a public road. Police will not tolerate anyone caught breaching the Traffic Act.”
