RSIPF defuse bomb successfully in West Honiara

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) successfully defused a unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the Stream Valley residential area at Tasahe B in West Honiara on 21 September 2018.

The EOD conducted the Render Safe Procedure (RSP) between 8:00am to 11:00am this morning (21 September 2018) including an evacuation of the people within the area of operation.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Operations, Mostyn Mangau says, “The UXO was found recently by members of the community in the Stream Valley area. The UXO is fitted with a Mechanical Time Fuse and is unsafe to move.”

“The EOD Team performed a render-safe procedure on the UXO and safely removed it to Hells Point at Alligator Creek, East of Honiara,” explains AC Mangau.

“I would like to thank those communities in and around Tasahe B and more especially those residing at the Stream Valley area for your cooperation and understanding during the operation,” says Mr Mangau.

Mr Mangau says, “Furthermore I wish to thank all the RSIPF officers especially the EOD team who took part in the successful operation for a job well done. As AC responsible I have all the confidence in the professionalism shown by the EOD team and all our officers in carrying out such an operation.”

He says, “The successful outcome of the Render Safe Operation today is a clear prove of the capability of the RSIPF to deal with such situations for the safety of our citizens.”
