Seif Ples increases space for survivors of family violence

Seif Ples, which provides services for survivors of family violence, will increase its services with the extension to accommodation space at its facility at the Rove Police Headquarters in West Honiara.

The ground breaking ceremony for the extension to its accommodation space was held on 5 October 2018. The ceremony was attended by the Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, HE Roderick Brazier; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Karen Galokale and officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “The event marks another miles stone in the life of Sei Ples. It will upgrade the current space at Seif Ples resulting in two more rooms to accommodate survivors and victims of family violence when they are referred to the facility.”

“This expansion will be a milestone for Seif Ples and its partners as well as Solomon Islands as a whole in the fight against gender based violence in all forms. The history of Solomon Islands in gender based violence is one that we will not tolerate especially when we call ourselves a Christian country.”

AC Sisimia says, “Seif Ples is providing an important service for women and children who face abuse in the homes. This care is important as the abuse has a long lasting effect on the lives of women and children affected.”

“I wish to acknowledge the support by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Justice Program for the refurbishment project for Seif Ples.”

“Your support is not in vain as it will assist victims of this growing challenge in our communities. At the same time I also wish to thank the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) for its continuous support for Seif Ples,” says AC Sisimia.
