Police in Makira Ulawa Province investigate tragic logging accident

Police in Makira Ulawa Province is investigating a fatal logging accident during which a man in his 30s died after a tree allegedly fell on him on 24 October 2018 at the King Solomon Logging Camp at Nakomage in South Star Harbour in the East Makira Constituency.

The local man was employed by the logging company.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai say, “The exact cause of the death is yet to be confirmed as Police are still investigating this tragic accident. I appeal to relatives and friends of the deceased to remain calm as the investigation continues.”

“I call on members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with the Police and assist with whatever information they have,” says PPC Sitai.

He adds: “I would also like to call on the management of logging companies operating in the Makira Ulawa Province to take all precautions to prevent such tragic loss of life happening during your logging operations in the Province.”
