As part of its preparations for the National General Election (NGE) in 2019, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is rolling out its Crime Prevention Strategy throughout the provinces starting with meetings in Gizo, Western Province from 6 to 9 November 2018.
A team from the National Community Policing Department headed by Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention, Simpson Pogeava, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial, Joseph Manelugu and the Supervising Director Community Policing Department Staff Sergeant George Iato’o, and his staff are in Gizo to organise the meetings.
Speaking to the Police officers at the Gizo Police Station today (6 November 2018) AC Manelugu says, “We are now approaching the Festive Season and after that we are heading straight into the NGE in 2019.”
He adds, “This is the time we should start working with our communities and our stakeholders in ensuring that our people will have a safe and peaceful election next year.”
“It is our duty to ensure that our people can exercise their democratic right without fear or intimidation. I want to urge our communities here in Western Province to start working with the Police as we look forward to the NGE next year,” says AC Manelugu.
He further adds, “This program will also be rolled out to three other provinces in the next two weeks and the training provided here will also be provided in the other two provinces.”
Police officers at Gizo were engaged in crime prevention training through field based learning, youth talks and the Kwaso Action Plan as part of their preparations for the NGE.
The program is funded and supported by the Solomon Islands Police Support Program.
