The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team will be conducting bomb blasting operations in the Western Province commencing from 15 to 19 November 2018.
Officer In-Charge of the RSIPF EOD Team, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “The Bomb Blasting Operations will be happening at the reported sites of Ringgi in Kolombangara and Munda on New Georgia.”
“The Operation is aimed at reducing and getting rid of the Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) or bombs from World War Two which have been there for more than 75 years and are posing a threat to our local population,” Inspector Tunuki explains.
He adds: “The EOD Team is appealing to people living in and around those areas to keep away from the UXOs and bomb blasting sites until the Operation is completed. Members of the public within the bomb blasting sites will be asked to vacate their dwellings as part of safe evacuations during the demolition timings.”
“I urge the general public of Munda, Ringgi and the surrounding areas to report any sightings of bombs to your local Police Station whilst the team is on the ground,” says Inspector Tunuki.
