Police in Honiara confiscate more than $200,000 worth of kwaso

Police in Honiara City has confiscated and arrested two suspects for alleged illegal brewing of kwaso (homebrew) at Aekafo, in the Vara Creek area of Central Honiara on 31 October 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Staley Riolo says, “2180 litres of kwaso (homebrew) with the street value of $207,580.00 was confiscated during the operation.”

PPC Riolo says, “I can confirm that at least two suspects were arrested and will be prosecuted in court.”

Chief Superintendent Riolo says, “The two suspects were charged for restriction of making liquor. Both have been released on bail to reappear in the Central Magistrates Court on 12 November 2018.”

He says, “This type of operation is clearly giving out a clear message to our communities that police will not tolerate such activities. If you see anyone involving in such activity please call the police and report them.”

“I would like to thank members of Aekafo and Vara Creek communities for their support during the operation by providing information to police. This is the kind of support we expect from communities in terms of policing to crackdown on unwanted activities,” says PPC Riolo.

“I would also like to thank my officers for the job well done in carrying out this operation. It is a challenging one but I am happy that you accomplished the mission.”
