A middle aged male from Indonesia has died during a fatal road accident on a logging road at Lughighi in the western end of Rennell Island in the Rennell and Bellona Province on 15 November 2018.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Joseph Manelugu says, “The deceased is an employee of the Samlinson Logging Company currently operating on Rennell Island.”
AC Manelugu adds: “It is alleged that the deceased and three of his colleagues were driving up a steep logging road when the vehicle they were travelling in experienced a fault forcing the vehicle to roll backwards and the deceased was thrown onto the ground. The other three people sustained minor injuries.”
Arrangements are underway by the logging company to airlift the body of the deceased to Honiara.
“Police urge logging companies operating in the provinces to ensure their vehicles are serviced regularly as they are operating in some of the most dangerous roads in the country,” says AC Manelugu.
He adds: “On behalf of the police, I wish to extend our condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased for the untimely loss of one of their members.”
