The Traffic Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) calls for the cooperation of all road users during the official hand over of the Kukum Highway Project which will be held in Honiara on Wednesday 5 December 2018.
“The official handing over ceremony will be taking place at the location opposite of the Honiara City Council (HCC) National Library and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development building where the pickup trucks usually park,” says Supervising Director of Traffic, Inspector Brian Surimalefo.
Inspector Surimalefo adds: “The newly completed two-lane Mataniko Bridge into Chinatown and the road from the HCC Roundabout to the Mataniko Bridge into Chinatown will be closed from 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday 5 December 2018. The access to Fijian quarter will be minimal as police will be controlling the traffic. The Mataniko Bridge into Chinatown will also be closed for vehicles only while pedestrians will continue to use it.”
Director Traffic Inspector Surimalefo explains: The ceremony will start at 1 pm with the arrival of guests and it will end at 5 pm. All pick up vehicle owners who usually park opposite the HCC National Library must vacate the area before 10 am on Wednesday. Also all drivers are advised not to use the Mataniko Bridge into Chinatown by 10 am on that morning until after the official program has ended at 5 pm in the afternoon.”
Traffic Officers will be stationed in the area to control traffic and ensure road users are not unnecessarily inconvenienced.
“I call on all road users to cooperate to ensure that the official handover ceremony for the Kukum Highway Project goes on smoothly and there will not be any unnecessary delays or traffic incidents,” says Superintendent Surimalefo.
