Police at Auki in Malaita Province have arrested four suspects in relation to the burning of logging machines

Police at Auki in Malaita Province have arrested four suspects in relation to the burning of logging machines owned by Green Tree Logging Company Limited in East Are’ Are, Malaita Province on 4 December 2018.

An excavator worth a $1 million dollar and two bulldozers with a value of $5 million dollars were burnt down.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi explains: “My officers attended to the report and arrested four suspects. And eight other suspects voluntarily surrendered. We are working on ways to bring them to the Auki Police Station for further questioning.”

PPC Apaesi says, “There is a possibility that the suspects will be remanded according to evidence against them and a possible charge of arson and damaged will be laid against them. The four suspects who were arrested are elderly people aged between 50 and 55 years old.”

“Police in Auki are investigating the incident and

I call on those parties involved to refrain from taking the law in to your own hands.

I appeal to community leaders and witnesses to the incident to come forward with information to may assist police,” says PPC Apaesi.
