RSIPF received sixteen motor cycle from ROC
The mobility capacity of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has been boosted when it officially received 16 new motor cycles from the Government of the Republic of China (ROC) of Taiwan during a ceremony at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara today 10 December 2018.
The assistance comes under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on police cooperation signed between the governments of ROC and Solomon Islands last year.
During the ceremony, the ROC Ambassador to Solomon Islands H.E Mr Roger LUO says, “The MoU is to enhance the bilateral police cooperation, improve the safety of the community and prevention of crime. Upon a request from Solomon Islands Government the Embassy of the Republic of China-Taiwan agreed to donate the 16 police motor cycles to Solomon Islands.”
Ambassador LUO explains: “The motor cycles were made in Taiwan, purchased in Australia and assembled in Solomon Islands - a manifestation of the cooperation between the three nations.
H.E LUO says, “I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the Solomon Islands Government for its continued support for Taiwan’s participation at the United Nations. Solomon Islands remains one of the strongest supporters of our cause in the global society and we count on your continuous assistance to make our voice heard.”
Commissioner Varley explains: “This morning we as the RSIPF, are so grateful for the kind gesture. These 16 new motor cycles will boost our mobility capability particularly for escorting Very Important People (VIP), Random Breath Testing (RBT) on our roads, high visibility patrols and traffic operations.”
Commissioner Varley says, “Our mobility committee has already allocated these motor cycles. Some will go to the Traffic Department, the Close Personal Protection (CPP) Unit, Honiara City frontline police and police in Guadalcanal Province. The rest will be held as part of the rotation by our fleet unit here at Rove.”
