Police in the Western Province have commended community leaders for police arrest

Police in the Western Province have commended community leaders and two police officers on annual leave for arrest of three suspects for disturbances at Dovele Vellavella on the 16 December 2018 and handed the suspects to Gizo Police Station.

On the 16 December 2018 community leaders with support of the two police officers who were on annual leave arrested three suspects for consuming home brew, causing disturbances and manufacturing illegal home brew.

The three suspects was transported to Gizo police station by the two police officers and at the station they hand over the suspects to the on duty officers at the charge office. Gizo police will investigate and charge the suspect for the offence of causing nuisance and illegal manufacturing of home brew.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says,

“I am pleased with the support provided to my officers by members of the community including their Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) at Doveleve Vellavella Island which resulted to successful arrest of the three accused.”

"The early arrest of this suspect is a manifestation of how members of the community and the police can work together successfully under the Crime Prevention Strategy to ensure our communities are safe from people who do not respect the laws of our country,” says PPC Lenialu.

He further adds: “Police in Western Province will mount an operation throughout the festive season and will apply zero tolerance to anyone who choose to take the laws in his or her own hand. I am calling on my good people from Dovele Community in Vellavella please do celebrate peacefully during the festive season within the boundary of law with your family.
