Police arrest suspect for intimidation
Police at Gizo in Western Province arrested an adult male suspect from Suantali Village, Dovele area Vella La Vella Island, for intimidating his closest family member on the 26 December 2018.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “On 26 December 2018 officers were conducting high visibility patrol on boat as part of its operation plan on the festive season, visiting each communities in Vella La Vella when they met up with the incident at Suantali Village, Dovele Area.”
PPC says, “Officers were called to attend the report. The suspect was drunk with locally brewed liquor known as homebrew. He was armed with a knife and was allegedly threatening the complainant in a close distance. The incident occurred because the suspect was not happy with the complainant for reporting him to the Police in the first incident, because he was arrested and charged. The suspect was just released and commits this offence again.”
Police quickly intervened, with the help of one of the locals. A Police Officer who was on leave apprehended the suspect and was transported to Gizo Police Station. He charged for intimidation and later released bail. The suspect will appear before Magistrate Court on the 14 January 2019.
