Gizo police call for calm during New Year celebration 2019
Police in the Western Province appeal to people living in Western Province to have a crime-free and safe New Year celebration 2019.
“I want to remind the good loving people of Western Province from Gatokae to the Shortland Islands to have a crime-free and safe New Year celebration 2019. My new message to you all is always do the right thing and more importantly respect each other,” says Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Chief Superintendent, Mathias Lenialu.
PPC Lenialu adds: “We must celebrate with the true meaning of New Year. New Year is a time for families to get together and celebrate their achievements and to reflection and welcome another year.”
“I urge my good people in Western Province not to abuse the use of alcohol in your celebration. . . If you have to include alcohol in your celebrations, consume it responsibly and don’t drink and drive. This is also for apply to our small boats as you travel from island to island,” says Mr Lenialu.
He further adds: “Police will mount an operation in the New Year’s Eve until and will apply zero tolerance to anyone who chooses to take the law in to his or her own hand. I am calling on my good people from Gatokae to the Shortland Islands please do celebrate peacefully during the new year within the law with your family.”
