Five people arrested in Temotu
Police in Temotu Province arrest five people for separate cases: Intimidation of another person to Wilful Damage of properties, over the period since 27 December 2018 – 2 January 2019.
Temotu Province Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent James Toaki says, My officers at Lata Police Station on 27 December 2018 arrested a male person who was allegedly threatening his wife with a bush knife, and on 31 December 2018 further arrest was made where another male person for swearing and intimidating his brother with a bow and arrow.”
In another development on 1 January 2019 a male person was arrested for damaging 2 x 5,000 litre water tanks belonging to Malo Community on Santa Cruz Island. The two water tanks were donated; one of which donated by Australian Aid, and the other donated by Rural Development Program (RDP).
Forth person who was arrested on New Year’s Day (1 January 2019) for willful damage of cooking utensils belonging to an elder person of Malo village, whilst the fifth person was arrested on New Year’s Day arrested for intimidation. Of the five reports which the police made an arrest on, two of which are domestic violence (DV) related cases. All crimes committed involved alcohol.
PPC Toaki says, “I am appealing to the good people of Temotu Province to abide to the rule of law and our custom. Please respect one another, care for each other and love one and all. Have ownership in your community and prevent crime together to make Temotu Province a safe, secure and peaceful place to live and enjoy. Policing duties is for all and not just a police alone to do policing. Let us join hands in doing policing, fight crime together and win.”
