Peaceful New Year celebration in Makira-Ulawa Province
Police in Makira-Ulawa Province says the recent festivity for New Year Eve to New Year 2019 in that province has been peaceful, although there are three reports have recorded so far.
Makira-Ulawa Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Peter Sitai says that so far police in Makira-Ulawa Province responded to three reports. But, in overall the province has been peaceful. The first report on 29 December 2018 involve three men missing in a boat described as banana boat powered by a 15 horse power engine, while on a fishing trip outside of Maniate Village in East Wainoni area. “The men are still missing, and I appeal for people to report any sighting of them to police or Solomon Islands Maritime Search and Rescue (SIMSA).”
On 1 January 2019, two incidents have been attended by police in Makira-Ulawa Province. The first incident involves a vehicle own by Waimapuru National Secondary School that went off the main road and crash landing into the bush in Central Makira area. “No arrest have been as investigation is continuing, but the driver has been issued with a Notice of Intended Prosecution for careless driving that once there is enough evidence the driver maybe located and serve a formal charge on him ” says PPC Sitai.
The last incident involves an adult male allegedly punch an adult female person at Togori Village main road, the village is about 2 kilometres east of Kirakira Town. No arrest for this case as there is no enough evidence at hand, but police investigation is continuing.
Superintendent Sitai says,
“I appeal to members of the communities in and around Central Makira where the vehicle of Waimapuru National Secondary School crash landing from the main into to the bush, and to those in and around Togori Village, or may have witnesses these two incidents to come forward to police and assist the investigation with any information.”
