Suspect in relation to Kola Ridge accident arrested
Police arrested a 26-year-old male person yesterday, 9 January 2019, following an accident at Koridge road in Central Honiara.
The driver was tested with Breathalyzer Machine, and the presence of alcohol in his blood is 0:204%, which was above the prescribe level of 0:05%. He was charged with two counts being for Careless driving and Presence of alcohol in person’s blood he had been released on bail to appear at the Honiara Central Magistrate court on 5 February 2019 at 09:00Am.
Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Director of Kukum Traffic Department, Superintendent Fredrick Satu said, “A 26-year-old male person was arrested yesterday, 9 January 2019 by police following an accident at Koridge road in Central Honiara. The incident happened between 7:00 Am - 7:30 Am yesterday.”
“The incident involved an adult male person who had been working beside the road when he was allegedly hit by the vehicle driven by the driver,” said Director Satu.
He added: “The incident is an example that shows people still do not get the police message, do not drink and drive.”
The Director said that we must work together to advice our relatives, friends, colleagues to discourage them not to drink alcohol and drive a vehicle, as that pose danger to the driver himself, his vehicle and as well to other road users.
This incident was highlighted by the Supervising Commissioner of RSIPF, Juanita Matanga in her Weekly Conference with local media representatives at Rove Police Headquarters, in the morning today.
