Police charged 40 drivers in Honiara during traffic operation
Police at the Kukum Traffic Centre in Honiara have recently charged 40 vehicle drivers for various offences during a one-week traffic operation.
Director of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department, Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “Over the period from 7-16 January 2019, my officers arrested and charged 40 vehicle drivers for various traffic offences in Honiara during police traffic checks.”
“I would like to thank my hard working officers who dedicated themselves to do road checks in Honiara over that period, which resulted in the number of arrests made,” says Superintendent Satu.
He adds: “I would also like to thank members of the public who assisted my officers to make their work easier. And I want to ask the general public in Honiara to continue to assist my officers to ensure our roads are safe, and to reduce the rate of traffic accidents or even avoid accidents at all.”
During the one-week traffic operation, a total of 10 people were arrested for careless driving, 15 for driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, six for driving with the presence of alcohol in a person’s blood, four for permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, two for driving without a driver’s license, and one each for driving without a valid driving license, permitting an unlicensed driver and using uninsured motor vehicle.
All vehicle drivers arrested for the period have been released on bail to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court on the 5th and 12th of February 2019.
Two cases of careless driving were also recorded during the period but are still being investigated by police and no arrests have yet been made.
