RSIPF undergo training on the use of Codan radios

Fifteen officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) including one Correctional Services Solomon Islands (CSSI) officer are undergoing a one week training course on the use of Codan radios starting today (21 January 2019) until 25 January 2019 at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

The training is coordinated by representatives of Codan.

During the opening of the training, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operation, Gabriel Manelusi says, “The primary aim of this training is to equip officers with radio communication skills and knowledge on the basic technical and operations of the codan radio.

He adds, “The first phase of the project will be the installation of the radio equipment at the National Police Communication Centre (PCC) at the Rove Police Headquarters and five other Provincial police stations.”

DC Manelusi adds, “The main focus and delivery of this training is to support the RSIPF during the National General Election (NGE) this year.”

He explains: “It is the aim of the RSIPF to continue to improve and develop the standard and quality of radio equipment that will match the fast changes in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the policing environment.”
The training will be dwell on the following areas;
• Introduction to the Codan Digital High Frequency (HF) Radio Communication Systems Technology;
• Codan HF Radio Communication System Theory of Operations;
• Codan HF Radio System Features;
• Introduction to RSIPF Rove Police headquarters digital HF Radio Communication System( Part 1);
• Introduction to the RSIPF Provincial Stations Digital HF Radio Communication System (Part 2);
• Preparatory Session (Equipment and System setup); and
• Practical Sessions on System configuration, System Bench Testing, Operational Procedures and maintenance.
