RSIPF ends Codan radio training

Fifteen officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) including an officer from the Correctional Services Solomon Islands (CSSI) will now be able to operate Codan radios after the completion of a one-week training course on 25 January 2019.

The training which started on 21 January 2019 ended successfully with the handing over of equipment and completion certificates.

Speaking at the closing ceremony Director Police Communications, Superintendent Ishmael Vunagi says, “This is such a great achievement for the organisation and I would like to thank the RSIPF executive for making this training available.”

He adds: “I urge those of us who have done the training to be assets in our respective work places. Make use of the skills that we have acquired during this training.”

At the same occasion Sergeant Lawrence Kimisi, who has served at the Police Communications for 15 years says, “This is such a mile stone for the RSIPF. This will certainly boost our communication system. The Codan digital system is more effective and reliable as it is a more advanced system. I believe that I will be able to carry out my duties more effectively and efficiently in the future.”

Codan Sales Director for the Asia Pacific region, Daniel Scalzi says, “Codan is committed to supporting and helping the RSIPF to continue to enhance their communication capability and we look forward to supporting you in the future.”

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi says, “The long term aim of this project is to upgrade and improve the RSIPF communication network to become a modern network using latest technology.”

He adds: “We have used the Codan radio system in the past and now as we will restart using this system I urge you officers to look after our assets and to serve our people whenever they are in need of your services through communications.”

The Codan radios will be installed in the Police Communications Centre in Honiara and some will be distributed to five police posts in the provinces including Taheramo Police Post in Makira/ Ulawa Province, Kia Police Post in Ysabel, Atori Police Post in Malaita, Poitete Police Post and Seghe Police Station in the Western Province.
