Police attend five reported cases and make two arrests in Choiseul
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Choiseul Province attended five reports and made two arrests over the period 31 January to 6 February 2019, compared to a total of 13 reports during the previous week.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “During the previous week police in Choiseul attended 13 reports and made eight arrests. The decrease in the number of reports is may be a result of the repeated appeals from the police to members of the community to help prevent crime in Choiseul. For that, I must acknowledge members of the communities for working together with the police to control crime in the province.”
“I continue to appeal for more community support to ensure Choiseul Province is crime free. We must work together to report crime to the police especially when Choiseul is located close to the border with Bougainville, and anything like that happened in the Shortland Islands this week could happen to one of our communities. We must report any suspicious movements of people from Bougainville into Choiseul to the police,” says PPC Eria.
Superintendent Eria explains: “I respect the cultural ties between the people of Choiseul and neighbouring islands and the need to move around freely but we at the same time must be vigilant and keep a watch out for those who might abuse the connections for their criminal intentions.”
In the meantime, PPC Eria is reviewing all active remaining cases of incidents in the province before arrests can be made. He appeals to complainants and victims of these cases that they have the right to know the status of their reported cases. They can enquire at the Taro Police Station for information on their cases. They can also call phone numbers 63199/63100/63167.
