40-years-old male person arrested for breaching nationwide liquor ban order in Makira-Ulawa Province

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers at Kirakira police station have arrested a 40-years old male person for breaching the nation-wide liquor ban order at Makira/Ulawa Province on 18 April 2024.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Juanita Matanga said the police have received a report that some youths (male) from Central Makira were drunk and causing nuisance in their communities.

DC Matanga said officers who attended the report located two persons who were involved in causing the nuisance, who then confirmed and identified a 40-years-old who has been selling liquor without a license.

Ms. Matanga said police have confiscated 27 cartons of beer and charged the suspect for unauthorised sale of liquor contrary to section 82(1) Liquor Act and illegal sale of liquor contrary to section 57(1) of the Liquor Act.

The suspect was released on strict bail conditions and will appear before Kirakira Magistrate Court 9 May 2024.
