Eight people arrest in relation to damage incident in South Malaita

Auki police have arrested eight suspects in relation to the damage incident that occurred in South Malaita between Walande and Bulu community.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mr. Juanita Matanga said arrests were made after a group from Walande teamed up, went to Bulu community and destroyed dwelling houses, church building and water source.

DC Matanga said a group of boys from Walande went over to Bulu but they have faced resistance by Bulu villagers. They went back to Walande and regrouped, armed with spears, knives and went over to Bulu village and attacked them.

Ms Matanga said a person had been injured and rushed to Tawaro clinic for medical attention during the incident and his condition is stable.

She said RSIPF investigators are currently still on the ground to investigate election related incidents between the two communities.

“I appeal to the good people of the Walande and Bulu community to work closely with the police investigators on this matter. Assist police investigators with information regarding the matter so that police could deal with people responsible,” said DC Matanga.

The damage incident occurred between 20 April and 21 April 2024.
