Suspect cut off his elder brother’s neck with a bush knife in Makira-Ulawa Province

A 35-year-old male suspect cut off his elder brother's neck with a bush knife at Hao village in Makira-Ulawa province on 10 April 2024.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Kirakira have formally arrested the suspect, dealt with and remand him at Kirakira Correctional centre while investigation continues.

It was alleged that the suspect had an argument with his 40-year-old elder brother over a nali nut tree which the suspect wanted to mill the tree for timber for his house while the deceased did not allow it.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms. Juanita Matanga said at the heat of the argument, the suspect took the deceased’s bush knife and cut the victim twice.

DC Matanga said the first cut landed at the back shoulder of the victim while the second cut landed at the deceased's neck and the deceased fell off the ground and died instantly.

Ms Matanga said the suspect lifted the deceased close to his house, left him there and quickly escaped to Kirakira police station for his safety.
She said the matter has been reported to Kirakira police station and police attended and conducted an initial investigation. Autopsy has been conducted to form part of police investigation.

I appeal to the relatives to remain calm as the matter with the police for thorough investigation. I appeal to anyone who might have information about the matter to assist the police with investigation,” said DC Matanga.
